Bone Broth Basics

That's me in my kitchen with homemade bone broth--more on that below but first:
We’ve all heard of “broth”. Broth is made from meat with water and added spices. But there’s a big difference between broth and “bone” broth.  Just like it sounds, bone broth is made from the bones of the animal--chicken, turkey, cows and even fish.  Bone broth contains a lot more health benefits than plain broth or stock.
 Bone Broth Benefits
*Packed with nutrition
*Great source of proteins & other key nutrients like Iron and Vitamin A & Vitamin K
*Good for hair, skin & nails
*Good for gut health-amino acids contained in bone broth help heal the gut & aids in digestion
*Sleep aid-glycine found in bone broth can help us get a good night’s sleep
Hair Loss
When I first started losing my hair back in October of 2016 due to a medication I’d been on, I was obsessed with finding ways to get it back. One way to grow hair—consume as much protein as possible. So, since then I’ve been drinking it non-stop, nearly every day.
Confession
I don’t like drinking bone broth. The taste is about what you might imagine—warm, salty water with a hint meat flavors. Since I really don’t like meat anyway, it’s clearly not one of my favorite beverages.  But something I’ve reminded myself about along the way has helped motivate me to get on sipping it. I’m not drinking it for the taste but for the benefits. So, I suck it up and sip it. I’ve made it a part of my breakfast for more than four years.

Picture Perfect?
These pictures show me with—not store-bought bone broth-- but homemade. My husband, bless his heart, actually made it for me every week for more than two years.
In my next blog, I’ll explain what’s involved in creating the concoction.  But eventually, I discovered why homemade may not have be as beneficial as the store bought.  I’ll also share the exact brand I’ve opted to stick with after trying dozens!

Grateful for you!
I hope you enjoy reading my blog and the information resonates with you. And I especially hope and pray you’ll share it with your friends, family and loved ones. I’m 58 years old and my goal is to stay healthy—naturally-- as I get older.  I want to learn as much as I can about staying healthy with whole foods and natural remedies.
Here on FitOver50Plus.com you’ll find information about diet, fitness, mental strength, beauty and even humor.

Make it a great day!
