![]() Planks are incrediblye good for us. And we don’t need any equipment---just a solid surface and our body. I now have a passion for planks! I was scrolling my Instagram feed recently when I saw info about just how good they are for us. It also included this: “Try holding a plank five minutes every day!” Challenge accepted. That sounded like a long time but I thought I could get there eventually. I’ve always known planks are challenging & good for the abs. But I had no clue how beneficial they are for our overall health & muscle development. Planks are Pertinent 1/Plank Holds-Strengthen our *entire* body 2/Stance-Balancing in plank helps our posture. 3/Better Back-Planks strengthen the back which helps to prevent back injuries. 4/Equilibrium-Planks give us better balance, improved flexibility. 5/Disposition-Planks boost our mood & relieve stress. 6/Metabolic Rate-Planks speed up our metabolism. This means we’ll burn more calories at rest. The first time I tried a few weeks ago—I struggled to 4:10. Now-get this—I can hold my planks for 7:00! The feeling of accomplishment that comes with that? Phenomenal—see, it is a mood booster! So, suddenly I’m pumped & primed for planks. I now do them at the *end* of almost every work out. Yep, planks are the cherry on top of my running, weights & yoga--sweet, yet a challenging & perfect way to wrap up a work out. BTW: The World record for plank was set in 2016. A guy held it for 8 hrs. & one min! . To learn the best form for planks, go to Lynda’s Day--at the top of the page and click on tab.
